Re: (erielack) Erie Lackawanna

Glen,

Apollo & Mercury were Lehigh Valley trains. I've never seen reference to EL
piggy-back trains by name, only symbols, like "2nd NY-100". I'm sure others
can help with this.

The Apollos were run through trains with the Nickel Plate (and later the
N&W), who handed them to the LV at Buffalo (or vice-versa). They ran on the
LV between Oak Island and Tifft Terminal. AP-1 ran west. AP-2 ran east.
These were "Hotshot trains" piggy-back only trains that had a 50 car limit,
scheduled for 15 hours and no set outs or pick ups.

Overage ran on the Mercurys (1 west & 2 east), which were mixed freights
that also ran between Oak Is. & Buffalo, but with a 24 hour schedule,
including set-outs & pick-ups.
