Re: (erielack) NYC & DLW former interchange
It's at a point just west of the exit for NY 414 in Corning; the actual
present junction (used to be CP GLASS) is under the highway bridge. The NYC
yard extends north from that point. Conrail called it Baker Steet; I don't
know what NYC called it. If you go down into the back streets, you can drive
up to CP CORNING and see where the ex DLW line went west, and the Erie
curved off toward Gang Mills. This is the west leg of the wye that is formed
where the NYC line joined the Erie/DLW right of ways. On the south side of
the tracks at this point, you can see the pad where the 1951 Erie station
was located.
I'm a little sketchy on the actual steets names, as I usually do this by
feel, but if you get off NY 17 for NY 414, go toward Corning, then turn
right at the first street-not into the visitor center, then turn right onto
one of the side streets, you can get up to the station site and CP CORNING
rather easily.
