Doug,

I'd be interested in seeing some of the article posted. The third picture of 
"Steam Locomotive Hulks" has an interesting caption. It states the hulks 
"are being readied for repair and shipment to Chicago where they will be 
placed in service". Is there anymore information on that in the article?

I'm surprised to see any major steam locomotive maintenance still being done 
in November 1951 - just over two years before the end of steam. Wasn't the 
Erie by then just running out the useful life of their steamers versus 
conducting what appears to be major overhaul activity on several locomotives 
to be "placed in service"?
