Fwd: Re: (erielack) DL&W Hopper: Locomotive Sand Service

Note: forwarded message attached.
The sand house at Bangor was set up to only get sand
from a box car. A wooden plank was put into the box
car and the sand was taken out by wheel barrow and
dumped into the hopper inside the sandhouse. From
their it was blowen up into the sand tower using
compressed air.

Bob:

Would you elaborate on the equipment used?

If a boxcar, how did you transfer sand to the tower? Was the sand shipped
in bulk, or bagged?

Why didn't the EL have a covered hopper assigned for this service?

Thanks
