(erielack) EL freelance layouts

My home layout, the Appalachian & Atlantic Nor'easter (AANE) represents
a merger of the Lehigh Valley and Erie Lackawanna, who pooled their
resources in order to stay out of Conrail. Geography of the layout
includes their respective routes from New Jersey terminals to common
yards near Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and then Buffalo.

I wanted a way to include my favorite locations on these two roads and
have found a reasonable design to include scenes in Bethlehem (my home
town) such as the LV/RDG Union Station, Hill To Hill Bridge and
Bethlehem Steel furnace and mill buildings. EL sites include the
Lackawanna station in Scranton and Nicholson Viaduct. While online
industries (such as coal mines) are regionally accurate, their names are
made up. Reflecting my love of classic movies, I've included Hepburn
Portland Cement, Peck Foods, Grant Furniture, McQueen Mills, etc.

AANE management had the unique idea that the engines remain in the
classic Cornell Red and GMY paint schemes. I run mostly equipment from
the '80s to the present, including custom painted/decaled GE and EMD
wide cabs, but by switching a few details I can slip back a couple
decades and run the two railroads separately with vintage Geeps and
Alcos. Like many others out there have said already, "The idea is to
have fun!" -Glen Larimer
