The sterling mine was an iron mine and was served by the Sterling mine Railroad. The line joined the Erie at the Sterling station (where there was a wreck in the 1950's). If you drive up Sloatsburg road this time of year, you can clearly see the roadbed and some bridge abutments. The mine shaft still stands at the end of the line.
