I know this is a little off-topic, but I've forwarded an article about the
Park Service rehabbing/restoring a Reading RR station at Valley Forge. I
would hope that we (the NPS) tell some of the railroad's story, besides
telling the story of Valley Forge of the Relovoutionary War period. This
is open to public comment, as the article states, so I thought I'd try to
disseminate the info to some that might be interested.

Valley Forge National Historical Park proposes to rehabilitate the vacant Valley Forge Train Station near Washington’s
Headquarters for use as an orientation, programming, and exhibit center.
This wonderful building was constructed in 1911 by the Reading Railroad and once served as a primary point of entry to
the park. The building has not been used as a station since the 1980s, when passenger service was discontinued.
Washington’s Headquarters is the most popular interpretive site in the park, but this historic house is too small for
interpretive programs or large groups. The station and the surrounding landscape can provide space to receive groups
and introduce visitors to the stories of Washington’s leadership and the political context of the encampment, as well
as the history of the Village of Valley Forge itself.
Rehabilitation of the station includes lead-based paint abatement and repainting; upgraded and additional restroom
facilities; HVAC and electrical, water, and sewer service upgrades; exterior door replacement and storm window
installation; concrete sidewalk and step repairs; and roof replacement. The project also includes rehabilitation of
the historic landscape around the building; addition of new accessible restrooms; addition of accommodations for large
groups; reconfiguration of pedestrian circulation; and reduction or relocation of the existing oversized Washington’s
HQ parking lot, which was constructed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the 1976 bicentennial.
An initial step in the NPS planning process is public involvement. The public is invited to comment on the project
proposal and any related issues or concerns they may have. Issues or concerns raised during public scoping will be
addressed in an environmental assessment (EA) to be prepared for this project. The draft EA will be available for
