Rick Fleischer- What an answer. Reading your post is nearly as exciting as seeing these engines in action. It's enough to convert anybody into a steam fan.
Schuyler Larrabee recommended the book "Invisible Giants" on the Van Sweringens, and I just ordered it from Amazon.
