(erielack) 4-8-4s and Erie industry

First, after being away for a month, I never thought I'd miss anything in
the morning more than the NYTimes at the end of my driveway -- but I
certainly was aware of missing my morning List Digest. And after picking up
The Times in Santa Fe on a random morning and seeing the renewed Middle East
mess, I only missed the List for the rest of the trip.

"Ramapo" would have been a great name for an Erie Northern, a great match
for the "Pocono" type as both names are signature areas and mountains for
their respective roads. BTW, re a prior entry, the "Lord Baltimore" (B&O)
was a Hudson not a Northern.

Just coincidentally-- re the name "Ramapo" -- I was just today doing some
research in my copy of Catechism of the Locomotive by Matthias Forney (1882,
hardcover) and noticed in the advertisement section at the end of the book
(not uncommon in books of the era) the following:
RAMAPO WHEEL AND FOUNDRY CO., MANUFACTURERS OF WHEELS - FOR - Drawing-Room
and Sleeping Coaches, Locomotives, Tenders, Passenger and Freight
Cars...RAMAPO, ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. An interesting early industry in Erie
territory!

Of interest below that ad is one for Pratt and Whitney ( who we now
associate so strongly with jet engines) for all sorts of machine tools for
fabricating railroad equipment.
