(erielack) Automotive Traffic

The D&H traffic being discussed was circa 1930's. I doubt the Framingham plant had been built yet, or even if GM existed (when did the amalgamation of Olds, Chevy etc take place?). The Ford plant at Mahwah was discussed on the List about a year ago, and I recall it being built no earlier than late 50's. I'm not positive about the GM traffic coming off the NH/PC at Maybrook. This is based on a photo allegedly of NE-97 in "EL in Color" which I realize now is probably miscaptioned, since the time of day is wrong. The WB train has a large block of loaded autoracks and is probably NY-97. Does anyone recall seeing loaded autoracks on NE-97?

For GM vehicles, I would bet that the traffic on the D&H was, in fact, coming off the NYC at
Schenectady. The Detroit area plants, and certainly the Framingham plant (the B&A line runs
directly adjacent to it) could ship that way. And I bet the tariff they published gave an
advantageous rate. The Ford plant at Mahwah is more problematic. Is there any information about
which brand lines were going via D&H?

I can believe that the ERIE/EL got the business via Maybrook from the NH, but I'd guess it much less
likely after it became PC.
