B&M bought 25 coaches from DL&W in 1945, as part of their program to "modernize" their commuter operations and replace replace the wooden fleet -- the "Ambroid cars". B&M numbered them 901-925. In 1951, B&M rebuilt 17 of them to combines (two doors per side) and renumvered them 3625 - 3641. The roster shows them as built by Bethlehem in 1911 and 1914.
Similarly, in 1944, B&M bought 20 coaches from the Erie, numbering them 950 - 969. These were from the "high-window" or narrow letterboard cars built by Standard Steel Car in 1921.
They also bought cars from PRR, NYC and RDG.
Details can be found in Passenger Cars of New England, Vol. I; Boston & Maine, by Robert Liljestrand and David Sweetland; The Railroad Press, Hanover, PA.

Take a look at this car:

Supposedly the DL&W sold this car to the Boston & Maine sometime in the 1930's. The car has DL&W cast into its trucks. Can anyone give more detail about it in Lackawanna days and confirm the B&M bought it?
