Re:(erielack) Sleeper types

How many of each car? Most of the time, the Guide did show, through car numbers. Of course, extra demand would call for extra cars -- if they were available. But usually, if the Erie ran a sleeper between Chicago and Youngstown, it was A sleeper -- one car.

Meal service? A look at the timetable would show that the food cars would run during normal hours for demand; a diner was useless between, say, midnight and dawn.

For instance, go to the listings for ACL or SAL ( or SCL, depencing on the date of your guide). The equipment listings show the car numbers, their types, and their position in the train. The guide was for the use of railroad personnel, and tried to give as much information as possible. On the other hand, it published only what the railroads sent in, so it varied, road by road.

Just enough fun to drive one nuts! Also, the OG doesn't say how many cars of each type.

One of the LV in Colour books shows a LV ad showing a roomette. It's caption says (paraphrasing) "Since the LV did not have sleepers with roomettes it relied on the CN to supply them."

It was surprising meal service ran Lehighton-NY Penn only.
