(erielack) Industry question

I have been looking thru a bunch of turn of the century Sanborn fire
insurance maps, yes looking at DLW facilities and track alignments.  But
I keep coming across "Silk Throwing Mills".  I think I have it figured
out because the name is sometimes changed in later years to Silk Weaving
Mill,  so Throwing is probably an old fashion word for Weaving? 

Never the less, I am surprised at how many of these "silk" industries,
yes served by the railroads, existed along side the coal mines,
collieries, and lumber mills.
