Erie boxcar #75486, long stored at the Elmira freight
yard and used for storage was moved out of the yard on
Thursday, September 27th. NS moved the car down the
nearby dirt embankment on its own wheels, then
rerailed it in the lower yard. The car was moved out
of the yard to a spot close to its new home in
Eldridge Park in the afternoon. The photos show the
rerailing in the lower yard, the move from the lower
yard (ex DL&W) and the arrival in Eldridge park.

This project is a team effort by the Chemung Valley
RHS and the Eldridge Park Carousel Preservation
Society towards establishing a railroad exhibit in the
park. The move of the car is noteworthy as this is the
first train over the remains of the DL&W trackage in
Elmira in several years (moving an ERIE car no less).

The companion DL&W boxcar remains in the yard awaiting
movement on Tuesday.

Erie 75486 will recieve a quickie restoration paint
job very soon (The Erie diamond was in the process of
being repainted when the car was moved), then a full
restoration in the spring, with a dedication event in
late May 2008.

CVRHS and EPCPS would like to thank NS for their
assistance with this project.
