But they were placed in commuter service on EL, NYC, PRR, PC and more after their long distance trains ended
 
Besides E9's were not a true 2,250 HP engine with two separate SW1200's 1200 HP 557's. So that did not help their acceleration and speed. ALCO PA's had a single 2000 and 2250 HP single engine block. A difference.

E8s were Never Intendid for Commuter Runs they wer built for Intercity limited stop trains  evn Alco PAs accelerated faster than E units today a PL42 or the upcoming ALDP 45s (not sure what the real model name for the dual power units will be) and whatever type cars ar built at that time would be the consists.
