Re: (erielack) NJ/PA - Environmental Assessment for Lackawanna Cutoff NOT!!

Cut-off and commuter/lightrail listers,

Hey did anyone else hear that NS will be painting some modern GE's and EMD with heritage paint schemes like the UP?? Man what a site, Erie BY with DLW GMY, add in some PRR red
and Reading green and we will have us a festival on the rails.?? Maybe they will hold a photo op like the UP did, man I hope they announce it way ahead and have it somewhere close.
I also heard that NS and CSX will merge to form an estern bloc to counter the evil BNSF and UP.

OK back to the relevant commuter talk.
Is the DLW talk site this animated?

And You could not be anymore wrong Don.

You lack experience on buses. You do not mention many railroads once owned their
own buses to make travel convenient and easy for their passengers at end of
line.

People stopped using trains because they cost more and did not have one seat
option to NYC for less money as is case with MARTA and many others. And rail
equipment was old and rickety and buses newer. No commuter buses ever featured
food options. Greyhound tried it in the 30's and did not work.

MARTA and Lakeland do a good Job with ex-Cut Off service and won passengers who
would never go back. Someone stated here last week a study indicated only 46
passengers would use alleged train service to and from Scranton. This was why
the service got discontinued. Lack of ridership. And many railroads
deliberately raised fares and not clean equipment to discourage ridership and
make their claim valid to the state. EL did a good job of this getting rid of
the Northern Branch trains on the Branch and moving them to the Main Line out of
Waldwick where they remain today as 1200-1204-1206 and 1201-1203-1205

NJT is basically a Bus Company taking over most of NJ's bus lines and investing
heavy in them than rails. If all your blabbing of the Cut Off were of interest
to the state it would never have been abandoned but upgraded the service.. And
with everyone loosing jobs today makes the Cut Off less of a necessity with no
one out there to ride it.

Railfan's love to see it and grab the comers and get pictures, but many empty
seats on the train does not keep it running.
