Nice catch! I'm surprised no one has yet commented on the interesting
"grillwork" on the nose of this loco - the sheet metal has been cut away and
stamped steel screening has been put in its place. Looks like they felt the
need for a little ventilation! Or was it a result of the repowering? Hmmm...

Former Erie RR Alco S-4 switcher #528 is alive and well, and in use at  
Cargill, Lima, Ohio.  Photo taken 06-23-09.
 
Unit has been repowered.  EL sold the unit to Martin Marietta in Gray,  GA. 
 Unit later was repowered and worked several coal mines in West  Virginia 
before returning to Ohio to work at Ag Processing in Ashville, OH and  then 
to Cargill at Lima, Ohio in 1997.
