Re:(erielack) Last Run Date
Research is most valuable, of course, if it is correct AND complete. After sending this earlier posting, I went to RAILFAN, vol. 1 #2, and Bob Mohowski's "Farewell to the Stillwells." I found that #70 of that Saturday had all three E8s and 19 Stillwells. That afternoon's #71 was E8 #825 and Stillwells 2633 and 2607, still in ERIE green.

If it is three E8s and a bunch (15) of Stillwells, it's the last run of this equipment on #70 from Port Jervis to Hoboken on Saturday, September 14, 1974, bringing them home. That afternoon, #71 ran west with a single E8 and two Stillwells for the true final run of the Stillwells. Two push-pull sets deadheaded up together that afternoon to start the new era on Monday.
Karl Zimmermann's "Erie Lackawanna East" has photos, so captioned, by Roger Cook.

The next issue of the Diamond will include a Jim Boyd photo of the last run of E-units and Stillwells on an EL suburban train. Unfortunately Jim did not date the slide--can any lister provide a date certain for this so that we add this information to the caption?ThanksMJC
