Point of order Gentlemen:
Fracking is short for Hydraulic Fracturing of rock [which uses fluids and sand together under pressure].
Fractioning = dividing into fractions, as fractioning of crude petroleum in a distillation column.

"Fracking" is short for "fractioning", wherein either chemicals or sand injected at extremely high pressure is used to break up gas-bearing rock (in this case, shale) to extract natural gas.
