It depends on whether by "units like this", Doug, you mean just EL GE U25Bs
or all EL power. In any case, I recently ran across George Hamlin's photo
of EL GP35 #2556 at Croxton on January 25, 1976, two months and a few days
before Conrail with the maroon serif lettering on long hood above the stripe
(though the newer EL 'Safety First' stencil was there to greet crewmembers
climbing up the fireman's side front steps). Assuming the listed date of
the photo is correct, I can't imagine this unit saw the EL paint shop in the
next 66 days (though I recall that a C425 or two may have). I had no idea
that an EL GP35 made it to Conrail with the original styling maroon serif
lettering above the maroon/yellow striping.
