EL list subscribers,

The Erie Lackawanna Dining Car Preservation Society just got the latest update photos showing the work progressing on EL diner 741. Most of the photos will be posted on the members section at www.eldcps.org. However, I thought everyone would like to break the January blahs (and chills) and see a piece of EL history reborn.

Photo 1: All of the Erie "modernized" roof has been replaced. This will be covered with a rubberized material and painted. When done it will look like it just came out of the Susquehanna shops (although a lot more permanent).

Photo 2: The new ceiling in the kitchen area. Those brakets you see hold the water tanks that are distinctive in many of the in-service photos you see. (By the way, the original copper-lined tanks have been saved. They will be sterilized and re-installed).

Photo 3: An overview of the new roof. Note the reconstructed kitchen vent.

As you can see, the rebirth of 741 is a reality. The Nickel Plate Road sleeper "City of Lima" is only a few minor repairs and a (fairly expensive) paint job away from completion. We are confident that Lackawanna diner 470 will also see this kind of restoration when 741 is complete.

Between the restoration work and our up coming convention in Scranton October 21, 22, 23 now is a great time to help our effort. Visit the ELDCPS website at www.eldcps.org for more restoration and convention details (as well as membership and donation info).

Tim
