Not terribly important but PA 863 was done by 6/61 and was probably the
first of the breed to get the GMY treatment. It was on the fantrip of June
4, 1961 that I rode and for which I wrote a Diamond article several years
back. The attached shot from my late friend Robert Duthie shows PA's 863 and
862 running around the train at East Stroudsburg.

The dates of the various paint schemes (roughly)...

(codes: TTG=Erie two-tone green, BY=Erie black/yellow, GMY 1=EL
gray/maroon/yellow with maroon lettering, GMY2=EL gray/maroon/yellow
with yellow lettering.)

850: TTG by 5/64, GMY1 by 3/65, GMY2 by 8/66 [GMY2 with lettering ABOVE
center stripe]
851: BY never repainted TTG, GMY1 by 8/62 [Roman lettering replaced with
maroon Gothic lettering by 6/67)
852: TTG by 10/60, GMY1 by 8/63, GMY2 by 11/67
853: TTG by 4/59, GMY1 by 8/62, GMY2 by 12/67
854: TTG by 7/60, GMY1 by 2/64
855: TTG by 10/60, GMY1 by 4/64, GMY2 by
856: TTG by 8/59, GMY2 by 11/66
857: TTG by 10/60, GMY1 by 4/64
858: TTG by 1960, GMY1 by 10/62, GMY2 by 5/67
859: TTG by 4/59, GMY2 by 11/66
860: TTG by 10/60, GMY1 by 8/63, GMY2 by 4/68
861: TTG by 7/60, GMY1 by 5/65, GMY2 by 12/67
862: TTG by 6/59, GMY2 by 7/66
863: TTG by 5/59, GMY1 by 3/62, GMY2 by 7/66

Erie-painted units that got EL diamond decals over their Erie diamonds at
some point are 850, 851, 852, 855, 856, and 858.

It's interesting to note that the PAs weren't repainted into the TTG scheme
until just before the merger, which probably explains
why they lasted so long into the EL with these colors.

radio antenna. What's that squarish flap in front of the
horn? An

Three of the PAs (851, 852, 853) had snow deflectors added in front of the
horn to direct the snow up and over the horn bell.
