List,

I have the EL caboose files from Bison Yard. Oil heat was a constant
problem. The oil leaked constantly, and crews were overcome with fumes.
Several stoves exploded. Attached is a lettter from Superintendent Snyder
illustrating the problems.

One of the problems with coal stoves, especially on the 300 series cabooses,
is that crews would fail to bank fires and leave doors and windows open when
they arrived in the winter. Toilets would freeze up.
