Subject: BOONTON LINE PICTURE
"Mountain_View_Boonton_Line.jpg" - image/jpeg, 652x677 (24bit)

This is a picture I took with a basic "box camera" during the Spring of
1963. I probably took it during Spring Break, probably between April 12th
and 19th. This is the only mid-day train on the Boonton Line timetable
leaving Hoboken at 2PM. The picture was taken just west of the Parish
Drive viaduct. The tell tales for the bridge are still in place. By this
date the original westbound track and ballast has been removed. The curve
is elevated as this track was 70 mph territory. EL had begun preparing the
turnout for the Boonton Line onto the Greenwood Lake line by this date.
Within six months, the Boonton Line would be gone. There is a barrier
fence made from railroad ties as posts and wire netting. Railroad property
extended, and probably still does under NS ownership, to where the trees
are located. The abandoned Morris Canal, now a pipeline, was in the tree
area. The train is just about to pass under Rt 23.
