The Morton operation in Silver Springs is actually a salt well (or perhaps
multiple wells), and processing plant. Salt brine is pumped from the well,
and after separating the water, the salt is shipped out. I believe that
they ship in rather small volumes, as compared to the Retsof and Hampton
Corners operations. They also ship at least some of their product in
boxcars.

In 1984 I snapped the attached photo. Although it's too small to read in
this image, the boxcar was stenciled "When empty return to EL agent, Silver
Springs NY" (or words to that effect). This car sat under the 8th Street
Bridge in Juniata for several years, with hundreds of others, awaiting
shopping or scrapping.
