List,

This photo was taken by former Allegany County Legislator Leonard
Watson during the Construction of the Allegany County office building
on Court Street in Belmont. Discussions with employees of DPW that
were around then and are still with the County say that steel was
being erected in the Spring of '76 for the office building. This
photo was taken from the third floor prior to the installation of the
masonry walls and skin. The view is to the north up the Genesee Valley.

From the angle of the sun, the photo was taken late
afternoon. Anyone have an idea what symbol the train is? I don't
know if it is EB or WB. The crossing in the middle of the photo is
State Route 244. The old Borden Plant to the north is partially
obscured by the trees, but you can see its two smoke stacks.

Was it unusual for TOFC to travel the Allegany division v. the River
Line just prior to Conrail? Would this traffic normally be routed
over the River Line?

Jeremy
