Received this from a friend, and am forwarding to everyone that got my
first heavy rains email. Indeed a very prominent piece of history. Thanks

Memories of Hurricane Diane, Thursday August 18, 1955 – the hurricane
blowing itself out over eastern side of the Pocono's was not considered a
threat by forecasters, but within hours heavy rains turned slow-flowing creeks
and rivers into raging torrents.
Received at Tobyhanna, 5:18 pm:

And less than one hour later, the order that foretold the worst disaster
in Lackawanna history:

This order was not annulled until 6 days later. By the next morning the
Lackawanna’s main line had been cut at 88 different locations, stranding two
passenger trains and four freight trains. 66 miles of track were wrecked
and entire sections of the right-of-way had simply disappeared.
