All this discussion on what could have been is interesting---what none of
us----none of us----took into account was the great de-industrialization
that was already occuring in this country in the '70's --and even in the
'60's..deregulation helped save the railroads, but it probably wouldn't have
saved the EL routes. It is certainly a lot more complicated than the above,
but still no EL!

The discussion about the coal dealers is also fun to read--they aren't
going to come back either--at least not like the cealers of yore, along the
tracks. So most of us have to do it on our model railroads. The attached photo
shows Netcong Coal & Lumber on my railroad. There were several other
dealers closr by: Arendasky's who unloaded their coal on a siding in OPt.
Morris, which was a remnant of the track that at one time went down to the old
coal storage yard along the lake, Shernce, in Netcong--they unloaded coal on
the team track and took it across Rt46 to their dock, and T.Judson in
Stanhope on the Sussex Branch near the cemetary.
I have a couple in Wharton and Dover, plus Young's on the Rockaway Branch
and one in Washington.
Speaking of the latter (Washington) I am looking for a picture of the
freight house --anybody?
I have a couple of pictures that i took about 50 years ago, but only show a
bit of the platform---
