Amtrak and the city of Louisville have scheduled a 10 a.m. ceremony to ma=
rk
the December 4 inaugural run into the Union Station. That=92s also the ta=
rget
date for the beginning of regular service between Chicago and Louisville,
Amtrak spokesman Kevin Johnson said.

Service to Louisville is contingent upon the completion of trackwork and
renovation at the station. The $530,000 project was originally slated to =
be
finished by the end of October.

The Kentucky Cardinal=92s current terminus is across the Ohio River in
Jeffersonville, Ind. The last Amtrak train to call on Louisville was the
Floridian, which ended its run in October 1979.
