Two Significant Victories for the West Oakland Diesel Shop

The preservation effort for the historic Southern Pacific West Oakland
Diesel Shop achieved two important victories as of Monday, Nov05.

Monday evening at Oakland City Hall, the preservation group - SP West
Oakland Preservation Action won a decision over the UP at the landmarks
preservation board meeting, where the Oakland Landmarks Preservation Board
voted (5-1, 1 abstaining) in favor of a proposal to complete the landmarking
nomination for the West Oakland Diesel Shop.

A second major victory was also announced, as the Union Pacific withdrew
their demolition permit for the diesel shop.

SP West Oakland Preservation Action looks forward to working with the Union
Pacific to develop a plan in which this important structure may be
preserved.

Thanks to those who have offered their support online and via petition and
to especially to those who appeared in support of the landmarking effort
