(erielack) EL 'What if' Query

Looking at my list of things to do in my modelling of the EL in the 1990's, 
I find that I've a question that requires a different viewpoint.

As my roster includes a number of rebuilds: SD45 (Series) engines, rebuilt 
to SD40-2 standards and GP35s rebuilt to GP39-2 standards [Models SD40-2(H) 
and GP39-2(H) {Rebuilt at Hornell}, my question is, Do you suppose that the 
EL would have renumbered the units from 3600s and 2500s to 3000s and 2000s, 
or just left them as they were?
