Let me see if I can remember that far back. When I hired out in 1966, we had SC2 and NY98 east and HS9 and X-1 west. Around 1967, SC2 became SC8. Early 1970's. SC8 became PN98, then back to SC8 mid-1970's. Also early 1970s' X-1 went over to the Erie side as the westbound afternoon Ordinary (also called 89, if one of the Fast Freight crews caught it). When Nicholson Tunnel caved in, only SC8 and CS9 operated between Croxton and Scranton. Then came the Moonshower Plan to operate via the freights via Scranton and single track the Delaware Division and the rest is history.

How would PN-98 fit into this?  Which, I think, was the e/b version of
CS-9 on the Greenwood Lake branch and then out to Scranton.  It almost
always ran at night, I can't recall seeing it the daylight.


IT WAS THE EAST BOUND VERSION OF CS9!  PROBABLY THE SAME POOL CREW.
I REMEMBER PN98 BEING HELD AT PORT MORRIS OFTEN FOR THE EVENING RUSH TO SUBSIDE. IT WAS A DAYLIGHT RUN OUT OF SCRANTON. IT WAS OFTEN PHOTOGRAPHED AT PORTLAND IN THE AFTERNOON. CREWS OFTEN GOT A BITE TO EAT THERE. ALWAYS A CONTROVERSY AS TO WEATHER THEY WERE ALLOWED TO GO TO THE DINER OR NOT. LOL
 
 
Jeff Mutter has scanned the 1974 employee TT, as well as a 1975 "freight operations" schedule that was put out by Tri-State Chapter NRHS at the time. You'll see minor time differences between the two. Also note on the 1975 timetable that PN-98 terminates at Scranton.

I MAY BE WRONG, BUT EVEN THOUGH IT TERMINATED IN THE TIME TABLE AT SCRANTON, I BELIEVE IT CARRIED THE SYMBOL THROUGH TO CROXTON. IT WAS SUCH A LONG DISTANT LOCAL, THAT I JUST THINK THAT ATTACHING ANY KIND OF TIME TABLE TO IT WOULD HAVE JUST BEEN AN EMBARRASSMENT. I ALSO THINK IT RAN RIGHT UP TO THE END. I CAN'T REMEMBER ANOTHER SYMBOL AT THE END THAT DID ALL THE WORK THAT PN 98 DID. SINCE ITS STARTING TO BE A LONG TIME AGO, I'M OPEN FOR CORRECTIONS.
