Re: (erielack) Piermont Branch

The stretch between Spring Valley and Suffern is not officially abandoned, but it is not passable point to point at this time. The Spring Valley end, near Woodbine Yard, has been used at times to store MOW equipment. On the Suffern/Tallman end, there is at least one customer, Dykes Lumber. A section of the tracks were taken up to rebuild the Route 59 bridge that passes over them beyond Dykes (but will supposedly be restored), and part of the line was encroached upon by paving in Monsey (highly illegal). Otherwise, the tracks are there, though overgrown. There is also an unmarked crossing at Monsey Glen Rd (may just have a yellow RXR sign, but no crossbucks). As for the date of the last through train, I don't know, but I have been trying to find out myself.
