(erielack) Train Yard Symbols

Re Hornell: ZY was the interlocking at the east end of the yard, at least 2
miles east of the station. Analogous to BK (Buchanan Jct) at the west end of
Meadville.

We've seen several symbols for Binghamton, which had 3 yards: Erie, DL&W
East Binghamton (Conklin) and the DL&W S&U yard adjacant to the D&H Bevier
St yard. I've seen both QD and BO on trainsheets for Binghamton, and Michael
says BY was East Bing. Can anyone clarify this?

Speaking of Binghamton, the current Diamond has a photo on pg 25 taken at
the "west end "; where exactly was this photo taken? We see a switcher with
a TTX flat. Where was the Binghamton TOFC ramp located? CR closed it early
on in favor of the Elmira ramp.

I recall that we used (mid to late 1960's) one or two alpha codes. Until I
get to my archive I'll throw out a few I recall:
QD Binghamton
BY East Binghamton
RA Elmira
Q Corning
V Hornell Dispatcher
ZY Hornell
UK Salamanca
HF Meadville
PO Port Jervis
XD Youngstown
Many of these symbols were from their two-aplpa telegraphic code. These
codes would show up on teletype train consists, among other things, as
address headers for the consist and detail for individual blocks if not cars
I don't recall using any three or more aplpha codes.
