As has been discussed, Port Jervis as a city has been celebrating its 100
year anniversary as a city. The August 3 edition of the Union Gazette
contained an Article on Laurel Grove cemetery and has been running a series
of articles regarding noted people buried there. The August 3 had a picture
of the grave stone and a 1909 obituary from the NY Times for veteran Erie
railroader Charles W Douglas. Attached is a scan of the picture and
obituary. Mr. Douglas is identified as the first man to take telegraph
messages by sound.
