Replying via webmail so can't follow usual format. Re: EL-N&W ID runs: During the years the NYCB and SLCB operated (1970-73), Peru IN, approx 25 (?) miles west of Huntington, was a CC point on the N&W, so crews operated Decatur IL-Peru IN. Of course, all EL crews changed at Huntington. So it's possible there was an arrangement where EL crews operated from Marion through Huntingon and continue a relatively short distance on to Peru (not Decatur). I think this is more likely than an N&W Peru-based crew going all the way to Marion.
The trains did struggle with volume. St Louis/E St Louis was a much smaller TOFC market than Chicago. The CB's were frequently combined with 2/NY-100 EB and NY-99 WB east of Huntington. N&W pulled the plug during the recession in late 1973.
