The LIRR web site
http://www.mta.info/mta/fares/lirr.html
shows the top zone off-peak one-way fare as $16.75 under the new fares effective today. That covers Montauk and Greenport, and many other places.
The SENIOR CITIZEN fare was $10.50 until today; now it's $11.50 - a steal.

On Metro-North, the top zone one-way off-peak fare was $13.75, now 15.

On NJT, the top fares are Port Jervis $18.50 full, $28 off-peak round-trip (NJT doesn't sell one-way off-peak tickets) and Princeton $13.25 - $22.5.

More than $10, but far less than $45.

Martz sells a monthly 44 trip ticket, Scranton is $520, which is $11.82 a trip. NJT's monthly to Princeton is $279, Port Jervis $373. Metro-North's max $412 is and the LIRR is $392.

So expect the rail fares to be competitive with Martz...
