RE: (erielack) Re: Scranton and Death by Train (don't read the last few paragraphs if you're squeamish)

Tell this to airlines and see. Cars are what other day is bad for environment a back door word to getting More $$$ from tax payers. If really concerned they would be rebuilding railroads and transit Now.

Wen you needed to be somewhere fats You did fly for time savings not possible in another travel mode.

Oh, Jerome, please, get off this nonsense.

Flying between NYC and Scranton would be stupid. And harmful to the environment.

My family and I took a vacation from Boston to Washington in April. I looked at the fares, and the
time. To fly, we would have had to leave the house to get to Logan Airport by 6:00 AM, wait around
the airport after going through security for an elapsed time of 90-120 minutes, then fly, arriving
at Dulles airport which is quite some distance from downtown DC. Then we'd have to take some form
of transportation (I never bothered to figure out what it would be, except that the DC Metro doesn't
yet make it there) into DC proper, and then likely have to take a cab or Metro to where we were
staying. Total elapsed time, door to door, about 9.30 hours.

Or we could take Amtrak, the Acela, and leave the house around 7:45, board at 8:50, arrive around
2:50 (IIRC) IN Washington, take a cab to the Foggy Bottom area, and arrive around 3:30. Total
elapsed time, 7:45 hours.

PLUS, cheaper, relaxing, no hassles with security, and I knew exactly where my luggage was at all
times.

Why the hell would I want to fly? And this isn't any 300 mile trip, which so many feel is the
cutoff for the train being preferable.
