Just a possibility..................
 
Might be a single unit running lite to Hornell or back from Hornell to  
Hoboken (I'm not familiar with the layout at Binghamton.)  The headend car  may 
have been added in order to run track speed.  Single units running lite  
were restricted in speed.
 
Again---just a possibility.
