(erielack) More EL veterans pass away...



John Hrina (Ace), 87, died Jan. 25.
Born in Passaic, he was raised in Garfield and graduated from the Garfield School System. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946. In 1943, his fleet escorted the USS Intrepid for its shakedown cruise. He was a sonar technician on the Destroyer DD579 William D. Porter, which was sunk June 10, 1945. He was called to active duty in 1948 for the Korean Conflict. He was employed by the Erie/Lackawanna/Conrail Railroad as an inspector and investigator in Hoboken. He transferred to Rutherford as an agent until retirement in 1987.
 
Hornell, N.Y. — 
John H. “Jack” Cregan, 69, died Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 1, 2012) at McAuley Manor, following a long illness.
A native and life resident of Hornell.	Jack grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1960). For about 20 years he was employed at the former Erie Lackawanna Railroad and Conrail, retiring as a conductor. For 13 years he worked as a forklift operator at Crowley’s Dairy in Arkport.
