Re: (erielack) EL E8's and Pass train in Schenectady 1971

I don't know the details of course. But this is just my opinion. The train is the "Laurentian" the daylight D&H train from Montreal. D&H did use EL units and cars. The first car is a ex DRG&W lightweight RPO. The next with the round roof is a ex Erie 1000 heavyweight... a fiction truck car! Then the NYC lightweights behind.

I would guess the picture was taken because the "Laurentian" Neither served Troy or Schenectady at this time. The train is on the D&H side of the depot on one of the tracks I would guess that have been improved (ripped up). But I don't think it's moving. The steam jet back along the cars is shooting straight up. I don't think it would if the train was passing. It would be odd to see the "Laurentian" stopped here. Of course the replacement train today's "Adirondack" does serve SDY....Schenectady. If you go west to Chicago like I do. It's a better place to change trains than Rensselaer. Lackawanna Lance

While checking out the eBay listings today, I found this listing....

http://www.ebay.com/itm/H-Delaware-Hudson-D-H-Erie-Lakawanna-816-SB-Past-OLD-Schenectady-Station-/360433610806?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53eb847036

which shows EL816 and another EL E8 with a passenger train going by theSchenectady, NY station on the D&H in January, 1971. I know we're out of thepassenger train business before this date so any clues as to what this moveis all about? Anybody have any information on this train? From the slide, Ican't really distinguish the passenger car heritages. Was this some kind ofa Dereco inspection train, maybe?
