CHAMPAIGN =96 The City of New Orleans restaurant and bar in downtown Cham=
paign
will close for good on Halloween.
The owner, Paul Faraci, said he plans to devote most of his time to his n=
ew
political career.
...Faraci said he has been trying to find a buyer for the restaurant and
bar, which are based in the old Illinois Central Railroad station.
He is still hoping to arrange a sale, he said. The space is leased throug=
h
December, but everything else is for sale from the business to the pots a=
nd
pans.
...Faraci originally opened City of New Orleans as a restaurant and bar w=
ith
a Cajun theme, but earlier this year shortened the name to The City. With
the new name came a changed menu and decor with an Americana theme.
But the makeover didn't take. Faraci said customers wanted the old City o=
f
New Orleans back, and he restored the former name and theme this past
summer.
For Faraci, the closing of City of New Orleans will also mean an exit fro=
m
the food service business. He formerly operated two other businesses in t=
he
Illinois Terminal building at 45 E. University Ave. but said he sold both
within the past year.
