Re: (erielack) NPP HO DL&W 4-6-4



Bob and all,

Here is what was done re-detailing and mechanically (I can't  recall the specific motor, but it is a can motor):

1.                    Re-work mechanical aspects of the locomotive for good operation, including new motor and gearbox 

2.                    Re-detail locomotive as follows 

            a.                    New Duplex stoker (CalScale 224)

b.                   New air pumps (CalScale 2002)

c.                    New airhorn (Details West 174)

d.                   New steam generator (PSC 3146)

e.                    New headlight (CalScale 331) and bracket (PSC 31613) plus add conduit formed from brass wire to headlight 

f.                     New bell/hanger (CalScale 281) and bell rope formed from brass wire

g.                   New Worthington feedwater heater system (CalScale 270)

h.                   Add cold water pump (PSC 3165)

i.                     New low water alarm (PSC 3480) 

j.                     New modified large capacity sand dome

k.                    Add relief valves on top of cylinders (CalScale 6372) 

l.                     New air/signal lines to pilot (CalScale 274)

m.                  Add cab window deflectors (Detail Associates 2304)

n.                   Add cab seats (PSC 3228)

o.                   Remove ladder on valve gear hanger

p.                   New re-rail frogs on tender (PSC 3110) with hangers formed from brass wire

q.                   Air signal lines on tender (CalScale 274)

r.                Assorted piping formed from brass rod and wire to match prototype photos.

2.                    Add working headlight 

3.                    Install Kadee #58 couplers

4.                    Install Soundtraxx decoder, speaker and exhaust cam

    Folks,

    I thought the DL&W modelers would like to see my NPP HO DL&W 4-6-4 which I just got back from custom painting.   The original model was extensively re-detailed with CalScale and PSC castings, and a Soundtraxx DCC sound system was installed.  It was custom painted and weathered based on photos of No.1152 in the Morning Sun book, Lackawanna Railroad Trackside by Mike Del Vecchio (photos by Henry Peterson).

    Those of you familiar with the original NPP model, know how crude these models were, besides not being mechanically very smooth.
