The Steamburg Milk Plant lasted in to the late 60's, when the EPA told them to upgrade the water treatment plant to the tune of of about $100,000. After #8 was removed, #2 actually stopped to pick up the milk cars. (I may have a transportation notice in the office that shows the movements---will check tomorrow).

The empties moved west on X-3 to Jamestown, where the Jamestown-Salamanca turn (#40/39) spotted them.

While we all knew the plant as the Steamburg Milk Plant, the actual name was the Queensboro (or Queensborough) Dairy. The milk went to a bakery in Queens.

Steamburg was on the Main Line and is still rail served by the WNY&P. Into at least the early '60's the creamery was a regular carload shipper of liquid milk. I believe #8 (Atlantic Express) handled the traffic. I am not aware of how the return empties were handled.
