(erielack) DL&W F-unit Headlight & Numberboard Questions

Any help in answering the following questions concerning DL&W F-unit headlights and numberboards would be appreciated:

1) The DL&W passenger F3s (A-B-A sets nos.801-805) had dual headlights. Unlike the E8s, the upper headlight does not appear to be a Mars light. Both appear to be single bulb headlights. Can any one describe how these lights were used in regular operations? For example, did these sets operate on the main with both headlights illuminated, or did they just use one and if so, which one?

2) The DL&W freight F3s (A-B-A sets nos.601-606) were delivered with a single headlight and a reflective number board located on the nose door. At some later date, a red emergency light was added on the nose door and the reflective number board was moved up to just under the headlight. Does anyone know the year that this was done?

Thanks for any help on these topics.
