I'm not one to be spending tax money willy nilly, but if we are to subsidize 
air, water, and highway transport, then why not rail, too. It's less 
environmentally disruptive, and almost none of it has to be built from the 
ground up-most of the ROW's are already in place. I don't think Thruway 
money going to support a "Phoebe Snow" train is such a bad idea. Put two 
trains on, so there can be some hope of a round trip to the end points in 
the same day. It won't take two days, either. The track is in pretty good 
shape for the most part, judging by what I see on the Tier and on CP south 
of Binghamton. Of course, there is still that 28 mile stretch in Jersey with 
NO track. Once that situation is resolved, I think you have a viable route. 
But, as Jim noted, there is no logic to transportation policy.

BTW, as a "bus runner", I'm not offended by the folks who would prefer to 
take the train over the bus. I've done both on long distance trips, and I 
MUCH prefer the train, for all the reasons stated.
