(erielack) Walking as the mode of transport

Read the bio of John B Jervis.  He walked from Oswego to Albany while working on the Erie Canal.
Harrowing story about making the decision to walk through a wooded area as it was getting dark, an
area where it was known that there was a bear.  JBJ encountered said bear.  JBJ won the footrace,
and lived to tell the tale.

But the point is that JBJ indeed did walk, probably thousands of miles in his life.  He had no
choice.
