Re: (erielack) Remains of the EL west of Marion, Ohio?

Phil's description is accurate except for the information on the last train on the old Chicago & Erie trackage. The last train on this section was not BN99, it was the IHB97 departed Huntington at 1945 HRs {7:45PM}. Orders were given from Marion that all trains be off the trackage by Midnight April 1. The Huntington Hearld Press and Fort Wayne Journal both had a nice article with pictures taken by Louis Zahm of the train leaving Huntington. I was the head brakeman on this train, Leo Smith who just passed recently was the Conductor.

Phil Albano did a thorough review of the disposiiton of EL's west end in
this forum on 10/25/2006. Check out:

This might be helpful.

Can anyone shed some light on any remaining EL mainline trackage that might
still be in place between marion and Chicago? I recall a stretch west of
Lima that operated briefly as the Tippecanoe or the Erie Western, but I
photographed a bunch of stored boxcars on this line next to a dead semaphore
signal in 1984 if memory serves.

Could someone point me in the direction of what's left and also a link to
the ABRF Erie/Lackawanna photo archives?

many thanks,
