RE: (erielack) Re: Rapido

Jason,

As a small business owner in another horribly profitable niche, "cycling", I commend you for your efforts. I for one am one of those modelers who wants more EL available, and of course prototypical is wonderful. I know many on this board are rivet counters and I wish I was that hardcore, but, I have 4, soon to be 5 kids, work 70 plus hours a week on my day job as a firefighter and another 20 minimum on my businesses. This leaves little time to worry about how many air chucks are on a particular car body. That said I am not a fan of 4 blobs and flash on the bottom either.

I appreciate your attention to groups like ours, and look forward to hearing more from your side of the table...

By the way, it's nice to know I am not the only one who gets requests that are not only impractical, but not terribly cost effective. Have a great weekend and keep producing outstanding quality products.

I think the important thing to remember is that there are close to half a million model railroaders in North America. It is estimated in the industry that somewhere around 2% of model railroaders are prototype modellers, which is still a good 10,000 people. We prototype freaks have a very large presence online, so many are led to believe that we are a larger group than we are.

(If you read the Atlas forum, you would be forgiven for thinking that 95% of model railroaders are interested in 1970s and 1980s freight - these are just the vocal guys on the Atlas forum.)

To give you another "statistic" from a manufacturer. We get a call just about every week asking for our Cafe-Bar-Lounge car in CPR colours. Our standard reply is that the CPR never had any lightweight cafe cars with the exception of the Skyline, which we are doing as part of The Canadian. The response every single time? "I don't care. I really want a cafe-bar-lounge car in CPR colours to go with my coaches and baggage cars."

I am a hardcore prototype modeller of VIA and CN. In my job, this is an asset. But I recognise that the vast majority of model railroaders aren't prototypers. Thank goodness, as no manufacturer could make a living if they were.

Regards,

Jason
