Re: Re: (erielack) Binghamton mystery
OK, Guys......in 1968, I was still enjoying life as a fireman/engineer in Binghamton (except for a little torture here & there by RFE Sammy Miller) & I don't recall EVER seeing this particular car or lashup (1 car / 1 E-8). Since it's a daytime foto, it ain't #5 (too late) or #6 (too early) It surely isn't #10 or 15 (nighttime trains) so WHAT is it??? Looking closely, u can see what appears to be another psgr car in the W/B siding obscured by the engine & car sitting on the W/B maintrack. This is really a puzzler. I almost said the 'Phillie' train - I.E. the connection from the Jersey Central that brought up newspapers & mail but I believe it was gone by this time.
Regards,
Walt Smith

The quick ID for the rider car is the stove pipe at the far end of the car.
The question remains: why a rider in 1968?

The car behind 826 is a Rider car; could be either one of the two ex-RPO-Express cars converted earlier in '68.
